The Hazy Moon Zen Center was founded by students of Nyogen Roshi in 1997 as a place for both seasoned and beginning Zen students. While maintaining the disciplined form of Zen, we endeavor to keep our center a welcoming refuge for newcomers. We hold to Dogen Zenji’s teaching that everyone can practice zazen and transform their life.
Zen Buddhism is a 2,500-year-old oral teaching carried forward one-to-one from teacher to student. It is rare to encounter a real Zen teacher. William Nyogen Yeo—our teacher, or Roshi—spent nearly three decades studying with the late Taizan Maezumi Roshi, who was widely regarded as the foremost Zen master of the twentieth century. Nyogen Roshi was the last of only a dozen disciples authorized by Maezumi Roshi to succeed him as a teacher.
We offer daily zazen, weekly Dharma talks by Nyogen Roshi, intensive retreats and regular classes to help you begin or refine your Zen practice. No matter how you choose to start, you are welcome to join us as a member, class participant or guest at one of our events.
